Plan the Light as Carefully as the Fixture
Confirm the bulb base, bulb shape, number of sockets and maximum wattage listed for the individual fixture. Candle-style bulbs preserve the traditional silhouette, while clear or frosted glass changes the quality and visibility of the light.
LED bulbs can reduce energy use and heat, but they must fit the socket and fixture. When dimming is desired, the bulbs, dimmer and fixture must all be compatible.
Chandeliers are hardwired fixtures and should be installed by a qualified professional. Heavy chandeliers may require additional structural support rather than relying on an existing electrical box alone.
Confirm whether the chandelier can be installed on a sloped ceiling, whether extra chain or extender hardware is available, and whether the fixture is listed for the intended dry, damp or exterior location.
