    Alsteby Painted Dining Chair

    Time has already done half the work on this one — a soft sage-grey wash rubbed thin at the edges, the way paint wears after a hundred years of Sunday dinners. A carved shell blooms at the crest rail, echoed again along the seat's front apron, classic Gustavian details worn down to something quieter. Cabriole legs curve out with confidence, joined at the back by a low stretcher for balance. The seat, a plain oatmeal linen, keeps things grounded under all that carving. Four legs, a stretcher, and a seat cushion — ready to pull straight up to the table.

    Sweden gave the world clean, pale, unfussy furniture, and the Alsteby carries that legacy in a distressed sage-grey finish that looks like it's been in the family since before anyone can remember. A carved shell crowns the pierced splat back, repeated in smaller relief along the seat's front rail, while cabriole legs — braced by a low stretcher behind — give it the poise of a much older piece. A plain linen seat cushion keeps the whole chair from reading too formal, happy at a farmhouse table one night and a painted vanity the next. It's the kind of chair that gets passed down, not replaced, gathering a few more soft scuffs with every gathering it survives.
